8-Year-Old’s Only Dream Is to End Child Hunger

This past weekend, the second-grader at AB Combs Elementary in Raleigh, N.C. wrapped up his second annual food collection drive for BackPack Buddies, an Interfaith Food Shuttle program providing low income students with healthy meals. William raised 3,300 pounds of food and $3,000, with donations still coming in.

"My dream is to do this worldwide," William remarks. "I think that kids should do this to help other kids that don’t have enough."

Astute and caring, William learned about child hunger in school and decided last year he would find a way to do something about it. He asked his mother, Blythe Clifford, to drive him to a local grocery store so he could speak with the manager.

Though Clifford thought he was kidding, William surprised her.

"I asked the manager if I could stand outside and give out fliers," the young boy recalls. "He said he didn’t have enough time and I was like, ‘Come on, think about it. You get the money, I get the food.’ Then he said, ‘Okay sure.’"

Help!!!

Okay, this is a request from th 19 - 27 year old out there. I am now the adminstrator of our office’s facebook page. I am doing quotes twice a week for the page. Monday’s quotes are serious, the quotes on Friday I want funny, from books and movies of your generation. It can been movies during your lifetime or before. Need help. Last Friday used a quote from “Gallacy Quest.” Monday’s quote was a serious one from “Babylon 5.”

Please, a little help here!!!! No cuss words and nothing too out there, even though this is for a college, has to be “tame” since it is coming from the administration.

I was looking a “Ghostbusters,” “Hitchhikers Guide,” and “Ironman.”

What other movies or quotable people should I be looking for from your age group?

If I use your quote I will promote your tumblr page on mine!

I have been picking up followers this last week! Want to thank you all for your support. Don’t understand why because there is not an original thing here other than my notes, but not going to question it.

Well, the six weeks of eye surgeries and followups are officially over. Had my last appointment with the doc yesterday and everything is great. Also had an appointment with my regular eye doctor. Glasses are ordered. We are going to Los Lunas to check and see if I can’t purchase and “cheap” pair of prescription sunglasses from Wal-Mart. So in another five - seven days I will have my glasses back and can drive again! I can’t wait. I love my hubby but I hate that he has been doing all the driving.

Son #2 is starting a new job in Pecos, TX later this week. It’s seven days on, seven days off. For the time being he is going to still live in Albuquerque, at least for six months. Pecos is terrible about having enough housing for the population there. So this will give him time to find something down there. At least TX has no state tax.

Son #1 is still plugging away. He has been working on his new position for a few weeks now. Only problem, they have his team scattered all around the call center. Hopefully, they will fix that little problem soon. He is still loving where and who he works with.

Both boys saw a friend who is back in NM for a little while. From the sounds of it they had a good visit and with Son #1 coming down for an early Easter dinner, he will be able to see her again before she heads back east.

Hubby is doing fine, but I think he’s as good as he is going to get. We did receive additional paperwork from Social Security on his disability. It was a questionairre about how he is doing now. You know. I honestly did not realize how his health had started really goind downhill until he had me read the paperwork before he mailed it back. How could I not notice???

I had my yearly eval. Boss started it off by “I have some good news and some really good news, which do you want to hear first?” I was so startled by that I never replied. Seems we are not only getting our 3% raise annual raise, but those of us on the “lowest” level of pay, they are adjusting it. It’s about a $1 more an hour but heck, I’ll take it. That was the really good news. The overall eval was good, the best from this guy, so that was the good news.

We are still plugging away. We did decide to go with a debt relief company rather than bankruptcy. It’s hard because we are still short on money, but boys are helping out. Just wish we would hear from social security or VA soon. If approved for disability it won’t be perfect but it will go a long way helping out. I sure didn’t image this happening to us.

Okay, enough of boring ya’ll to death. I will probably loose all the followers I have gained now.

Have a great week!
